Consecutive championships have ignited a dynasty conversation regarding the Kansas City Chiefs, but Andy Reid isn’t concerned about that label.
Kansas City’s head coach told reporters Monday he’ll leave that conversation to the media as he focuses on getting back to work.
“It’s up to you to do the dynasty thing,” Reid said, per USA Today’s Safid Deen. “I’m back to training camp and the meat and potatoes kinda thing. That’s where I go. I make sure the guys are back in shape and we’re ready to roll.”
The Chiefs have won three championships in the last five years and will attempt to become the first NFL team ever to capture three straight Super Bowl titles. Yet Reid isn’t resting on last year’s success.
“Every year in the NFL is a new year,” Reid said. “Every team is a different team. Guys know how I go with that: Don’t get caught up in too much of the fluff. We just roll. I put on another Tommy Bahama shirt, and let’s go.”
The dynasty discussion is subjective, but Kansas City seems to merit the label after making the AFC Championship Game in each of Patrick Mahomes’ six seasons as a starter. However, the Chiefs are more focused on continuing their historic run.
“It’s the start of one,” Mahomes said when asked about a dynasty after their Super Bowl overtime win over the San Francisco 49ers last month. “We’re not done.”
