Reggie Bush never played for the Kansas City Chiefs, but has a special place in the history of Patrick Mahomes’ predecessor.
Chiefs legend Alex Smith played with Bush at Helix High School in La Mesa, California, forming one of the most dynamic duos in the country in the early 2000s.
Smith ended up at Utah, and Bush made his way to USC after their storied high school careers. They were both Heisman finalists in 2004, which marked the first time that two players from the same high school appeared at the same presentation ceremony.
While Smith never won a Heisman, Bush earned the trophy in 2005 after putting together one of the best seasons in college football history. The award was later vacated due to violations of the NCAA’s strict policies regarding gifts to student-athletes.
On Wednesday, the Heisman Trust announced that they would reinstate Bush’s Heisman.
Football fans around the country were thrilled to hear the news and took to social media platforms to express their relief that Bush received the recognition that, in their estimation, was well-earned after his storied collegiate career.
