This years draft has plenty of talent from top to bottom
The Royals organization as a whole has shown a real knack for developing pitchers since the change in front office before the 2023 season. The Royals have seen improvements from pitchers at every level of the organization, a complete change of pace from what Royals fans became accustomed to over the last half-decade. Now, Kansas City has one of the best pitching staffs in baseball, and the organizational depth is impressive.
Some may wonder: Why would the Royals go out and add more pitching depth to the organization when the need for offense is so clear?
I would argue that adding offense is important, and the lack of high-quality bats in the Royals’ farm is concerning. But there is no reason to reinvent the wheel here. The Royals have shown they can develop pitchers into quality pro players, so why stop? If there becomes a log jam at the top of the organization, some of that pitching talent can be used in trades to acquire top MLB bats from other organizations.
Teams like the Guardians, Rays, and Cardinals are all small to mid-market teams who have shown a tendency to develop high-quality pitching talent. And when you look at what has made these teams consistently successful over the last few years, it has been deep pitching and trades to acquire hitters as they need them. So today, I looked at the top pitchers the Royals could add in the 2025 MLB draft that can have a big impact on the future of the organization.
