And there could be more help on the way.
Welcome to SB Nation Reacts (formerly known as SB Nation Fanpulse), a survey of fans across MLB. Each week, we send 30 polls to plugged in fans from each team. Royals fans, sign up HERE to join SBN Reacts.
Today’s SBN Reacts is all about pitching. Royals pitching has been in the middle of the pack with some terrific performances from Danny Duffy, some poor performances from Brad Keller, and some mixed performances from Brady Singer and Mike Minor. We asked Royals fans if they had confidence in the pitching staff, and 80 percent said they did.
MLB has also seen a pair of no-hitters already in this young season with Padres pitcher Joe Musgrove blanking the Rangers, and White Sox pitcher Carlos Rodon shutting down Cleveland. The frequency of the no-hitters in an age of lower batting averages doesn’t seem to water down the accomplishments in the minds of fans – 93 percent still see it as a big deal.
Both Musgrove and Rodon allowed only one baserunner – a hit batter. We asked fans what was the most acceptable way to allow a baserunner in a no-hitter.
Finally, there are some no-hitters that still have a lot of baserunners. Edwin Jackson once walked eight hitters in a no-hitter when he was with the Rays. Yankees pitcher Andy Hawkins once threw a no-hitter and gave up four runs in a loss. We asked fans at what point does the amount of baserunners negate the no-hitter.
