Happy May Day to all.
Noah Cameron’s family was on hand for his spectacular MLB debut in last night’s win:
Cameron’s dad, Tracy, is from Pattonsburg, Mo., a small town off Interstate 35 northwest of St. Joseph. His mom, Diane, is from St. Joseph. They’ve been Royals fans for “forever,” Diane said, and raised all five of their kids to be, too. Noah is their youngest.
All of them were on hand, along with Noah’s wife, Casey, and 1-year-old son, Auggie.
“I’ve been a fan of the Royals since before George Brett came along,” Tracy said. “This is unbelievable. For Noah to be drafted by the Royals, it’s not only great for him and for us, but for the entire town of St. Joseph. This organization has been so good to us.”
Bobby Witt Jr. spoke to The Athletic about his passion for trading cards ($):
“It’s crazy just from the fact that you have your card collectors that have been there from the beginning and that are older now,” Witt said. “Then you have the kids now and they collect with their parents and so just for the hobby, that’s how it grows. Then you’ve got professional athletes that collect. You see guys in the clubhouse opening packs. You see guys doing breaks with guys so there’s just so many different ways to kind of get involved in the hobby. It’s just really cool how much it’s growing.
“I don’t see it ever really stopped growing just because of how in-tune guys are in cards and just the different variations of what a card could come in, whatever type it is. It’s just cool to see it’s not just one kind of genre of people that are collecting cards. There’s just so many.”
Pete Grathoff highlights some remarkable stats from the young phenom:
Here’s one other bonkers stat that shows Witt’s unique greatness. MLB Network noted that since 2024 Witt is batting above .300 and has a slugging percentage over .500 against three types of pitches: fastballs, breaking balls and off-speed pitches. He’s the only player in Major League Baseball to do that. Like the baseball cards Witt likes to collect, he’s 1 of 1.
Kiley McDaniel has his top ten prospects from each team:
Wolters is still having some trouble finding the strike zone, but the raw stuff and athleticism is still there, so I want to stay on board a bit longer. Ricardo is a switch-hitting shortstop with power but was in the Dominican Summer League last year, so it’ll be a while. Cameron is a nice big league inventory starter that they’ll probably need at some point this year. And yes, Cags is still hitting well while he works to improve the finer points.
