The weather and the trade market heats up.

Jonathan India won the first game Saturday with a walk-off home run, writes Anne Rogers.

“I want that moment,” India said. “I want to be in that moment every time. I embrace the failure. I think it teaches you how to become better. So for me, failing is a learning experience. I’m learning every day in this game, and all I can do is just keep getting better and keep working and building off of what I do today.”

The Royals explain the Randal Grichuk trade.

“There needs to be some semblance of a bench in the sense that you need options,” general manager J.J. Picollo said. “[Manager Matt Quatraro] needs options to be able to maneuver through games. And when you have a lot of left-handed bats and not the right-handed bats that have proven they can hit left-handed pitching really well, at times you can feel a little short-handed. So this is just trying to make our roster deeper, make us better, allow us to be more competitive.”

Kris Bubic landed on the Injured List with a left rotator cuff strain that he has been battling most of the year.

“Most pitchers, when they go out there, they feel something almost every time,” Quatraro said Sunday. “The severity of it and his ability to continue to deal with it has been manageable by his own admission.

“ …But now [it] has gotten to a point where he doesn’t and we don’t feel like it’s best for him to keep fighting through it.”

Jac Caglianone also landed on the Injured List with a hamstring injury.

“That first step out of the gate on the [Kyle] Manzardo double [in the second inning], I felt it,” Caglianone said Saturday night. “And it lingered throughout that run. And then every foul ball and stuff, doing the drop step, I could feel it.

“And then grounding into the double play, running down the line, I was like, ‘This doesn’t feel right.’ That’s when I came back in and just sat down, made sure it was good. It was achey, I guess, and I had to talk to the trainer.”

Jaylon Thompson has an update on Michael Loreznen.

Right now, the Royals also have Seth Lugo, Michael Wacha and Noah Cameron in their starting rotation. Lorenzen is still on the mend with a left-oblique strain and Ragans has a strained left rotator cuff.

“He threw yesterday down the mound,” Quatraro said of Lorenzen. “Two sets of 30 throws. He was high 80s, low 90s with velocity. He said he is feeling really good. It’s just a matter of building him up.”

He also writes about the Grichuk trade.

It is uncertain whether the trade to acquire Grichuk will complete the Royals’ pre-deadline maneuvers, or if they’ll continue looking to add to their current roster in coming days.

“We really don’t know what’s going to be out there,” Picollo said. “So really every opportunity that presents itself in the moment, you have to evaluate it.”

Tyler Gentry cleared waivers and was assigned to Omaha.
