Evan Sisk is sent down.
The Royals have selected the contract of right-handed reliever Andrew Hoffmann from Triple-A Omaha and optioned pitcher Evan Sisk to the minors. Hoffman had a 2.84 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 9 walks in 25 1⁄3 innings for Omaha.
Hoffmann was originally a 12th-round pick out of the University of Illinois in 2021, two years after Michael Massey played there. He began his pro career with the Braves but was traded to the Royals in 2022 with Drew Waters and CJ Alexander for a competitive balance draft pick. He struggled as a starter, but became a full-time reliever this year with much-improved results. He throws in the low-to-mid-90s with a sweeper and a change up.
Sisk had a 1.69 ERA with 11 strikeouts but 5 walks in 5 1⁄3 innings. He had pitched in each of the last two games, giving up a run on Monday and a hit and two walks among the four batters he faced yesterday. The Royals are playing a right-handed heavy Tigers lineup this weekend, making it less necessary to keep Sisk.
Adding Hoffmann brings the 40-man roster to 39 players.
