I’m covering consecutive Seth Lugo starts.
The Milwaukee beer-makers take on the Kansas City prince-makers this evening at Kauffman Stadium for the second game of this three-game set. After winning a tightly contested 3-2 game last night, Kansas City has a chance for a series victory tonight.
Seth Lugo will start for the Royals. Lugo was excellent in his two latest starts, completing seven innings in each while allowing just one run. He struck out 17 batters while allowing just five hits and four walks across the two outings. Lugo last pitched against Milwaukee in April last year, allowing three runs in 3.2 innings.
Colin Rea takes the mound for the Brewers. Rea has a 2.67 ERA in six starts this season. That sounds like trouble until you see that he has a 4.78 FIP and 5.77 xERA. He doesn’t have especially good command or miss a ton of bats — his ERA has been propped up by a .240 BABIP against and 88.6% strand rate. Hopefully the Royals can help his ERA catch up to the peripherals. Rea last faced Kansas City just shy of a year ago today, allowing four runs in 3.2 innings.
First pitch: 6:40 pm CDT
