Missouri Coach Eli Drinkwitz Getting Dunked On For Comment On Player Salaries

May 30, 2023 by The Spun

Missouri football coach Eli Drinkwitz should probably stay off social media for at least the next 24 hours.

When talking about NIL this week, Drinkwitz said some college players are making more money than his brother-law, who happens to be a pediatrician.

Drinkwitz seemed irritated by that fact. After all, he referred to his brother-in-law as someone who “saves lives.”

Once this comment from Drinkwitz surfaced on Twitter, countless media members and football fans blasted him for throwing shade at student-athletes.

Dave Helman tweeted, “My dude you’re getting paid $6 million to coach a school where you have never had a winning record.”

“Eli Drinkwitz got a contract extension and a $2 million raise last season, four days after losing to Kentucky and three days before his Missouri team lost by 42 points against Tennessee,” Will Backus of CBS Sports said.

Drinkwitz became the head coach of Missouri’s football program in December of 2019. He has a 17-19 record since taking over the job.

It’s safe to say Drinkwitz grossly miscalculated how the public would’ve reacted to his latest comment about NIL.
