Kansas coach Bill Self has hit the portal hard this offseason, and another huge piece is on the way to Lawrence.
Wisconsin transfer guard AJ Storr pledged to the Jayhawks on Thursday, giving the Jayhawks three portal commits this cycle. Storr, the 6-foot-7, 205-pound guard, will join former South Dakota State guard Zeke Mayo and former Florida guard Riley Kugel in Lawrence.
“AJ is a great athlete and one of the top wing players in the portal,” Self said in a release. “He pulled his name out of the (NBA) draft and we are happy he chose to come to Kansas. We feel AJ will fit in well with our style of play. He comes from a winning program at Wisconsin. He actually visited Kansas out of high school when he was at IMG Academy.”
Storr, the Rockford (IL) native, averaged 16.8 points and 3.9 rebounds per game last season. He led Wisconsin in scoring while shooting 43.4% from the field and 32% from 3-point range. Storr was No. 3 on 247Sports’ transfer portal rankings for this cycle.
This will be Storr’s seventh basketball team in seven years dating back to high school. He’s gone from Kankakee High School, to Bishop Gorman High School, to AZ Compass Prep, to IMG Academy, to St. John’s, to Wisconsin, and now, to the University of Kansas.
All three of Self’s portal adds this offseason averaged nine points per game or more last season at their respective schools, with Kugel the lone player not in double-figures. All three have also shot over 34% from beyond the arc in their careers.
Out of high school, Storr was a four-star recruit and the No. 97 player in the 2022 class, per 247Sports.
