Kansas dominates in front of No. 1 recruit Tyran Stokes

LAWRENCE, KS – In a battle of the potential top-two NBA Draft picks, Kansas dominated BYU from the start on Saturday, beating the Cougars 90-82. Darryn Peterson — who once again battled cramping issues, scored an efficient 18 points, all of which came in the first half.

In attendance for Saturday’s game were three of Kansas’ main targets in the recruiting world. Five-star Taylen Kinney, a Kansas signee, five-star Javon Bardwell, a Kansas commit and No. 1 recruit Tyran Stokes, who has the Jayhawks in his final three all watched from the raucous environment at Allen Fieldhouse.

Kansas head coach Bill Self was asked about the day and called it perfect.

“I thought it was great. Perfect,” Self said postgame.

The Jayhawks were able to keep BYU star freshman AJ Dybantsa quiet for the majority of the first half, but the future top-three pick finished with 17 points on six-of-12 shooting.

Also losing Elmarko Jackson to injury in the game, Kansas will have a quick turnaround when it travels to Texas Tech for a meeting with the Red Raiders on Monday. Self said postgame that he doesn’t know the status of Jackson and Peterson for Monday’s game, but did seem optimistic about their availability.
