Kansas star Darryn Peterson returned to the court Sunday after missing seven games with a hamstring injury, leading the Jayhawks to an 80-60 win against Missouri at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. Peterson’s final line included 17 points, three rebounds and three made threes in the win.
“I wasn’t worried about his hamstring today. I was worried about him sick and throwing up or whatever,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said postgame. “He’s dehydrated, he’s dealing with all this stuff and I just thought, ‘Let’s just back off a little.”
With Peterson’s timeline kept very private over the course of his injury, Self provided more context to the star’s recovery.
“That kid wants to be out there so bad,” Self said. “Whenever I say whatever I’m gonna say, it’s not enough for me to say he’s day-to-day, which that what it’s been. If (Peterson) had a compound fracture, nobody would say anything, because you can see it. This, you can’t see.”
The Jayhawks will hit the road and face Will Wade and NC State next Saturday, December 13.
