Michael Capria (b. Jan. 10, 2004) is a walk-on offensive lineman who is majoring in business administration. He redshirted and did not play in 2022 as he worked to become a reserve.
In 2023, he saw action as a reserve offensive lineman in the season opener against SEMO, seeing time on four offensive snaps.
Capria played in all 13 games last year, primarily on field goal and extra point protection, in addition to serving time as a reserve offensive lineman against UT Martin, Oklahoma State, West Virginia and Cincinnati. He was in for 27 offensive snaps during the season, including a career-high 13 against UT Martin, and earned Academic All-Big 12 honors after the season.
Capria prepped under head coach Chad Frigon at Liberty High School, where he garnered first-team all-state honors from the Missouri Football Coaches Association as both a junior and a senior, as well as first-team all-district and all-conference accolades both seasons.
He helped the Blue Jays to earn a combined 17-6 record over his final two seasons, including a 10-2 record and a trip to the state quarterfinals as a junior.
Capria, who is a pretty strong dude, walked on at K-State over recruiting interest from Central Arkansas, North Dakota State, South Dakota and Wyoming, according to 247Sports.
Here’s what Chris Klieman had to say about his potential during the 2022 fall camp:
…one of the strongest guys on the offensive line is Michael Capria out of Kansas City, and I couldn’t be more pleased with him for a guy who’s never played center. To see where he’s at right now, I couldn’t be more pleased.
This sentiment was echoed in fall 2023 by former offensive line coach Conor Riley:
We have a walk-on who might be the strongest kid in the group, Michael Capria, who’s out of Liberty North in Kansas City, and the way he competes and battles has been very impressive. In fact, I’ve gotten him a lot of reps with the twos recently because he deserves it.
Klieman reiterated that Capria was making progress toward the field in the fall of 2024:
Michael Capria is doing a really good job. Cap has progressed really well, and we feel like we have depth there. Sam Hecht has a little bit more game-playing experience, but right now Sam is doing a good job, but I like what Cap is doing, too.”
Sounds like a guy who could definitely break through this fall and run with the twos again…
