Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce recently signed an historic contract extension with the team. But while he’s certainly raised the bar for what a tight end can accomplish, he hopes to also raise the tide for all others at his position.
On the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Kelce thanked the Chiefs for getting the new deal done with him. He thanked the team for also helping to “move the needle for the tight end room” at large. Kelce hopes that the deal he got and others like it will help the “AAV” of every tight end looking for a new deal get better and better in the years to come.
“I’m so excited and so thankful to this organization for getting it done, making me feel appreciated and compensated the right way and on top of that I got to move the needle for the tight end room,’’ Kelce said. “It’s everyone else’s job to keep making that tight end AAV go up and up with every single contract that’s better than mine in the future.”
The new deal gives Kelce a whopping $34.25 million over the next two years – putting him in the upper echelon of all pass catchers in the NFL, not just tight ends.
But what Kelce has done in his NFL career with the Chiefs is nothing short of incredible.
He already owns the postseason record for receptions and could very well break all of the remaining postseason records for a pass catcher by the time he’s ready to call it a career.
