Earlier this week, the Kansas City Chiefs signed Travis Kelce to a two-year extension that’s worth $34.25 million. The All-Pro tight end opened up about his new deal on the latest episode of “New Heights.”
Kelce made it clear that he wasn’t going to have a holdout this offseason. Staying away from the gridiron is simply not possible for him.
“I’m not a guy that sits out,” Kelce said, via ESPN. “I’m not a guy that holds out. I’m a guy that loves coming into the building, and the Chiefs know that. So, for them to want to get this done for me knowing how much blood, sweat and tears that I put into this thing, I’m extremely grateful.
“I’m so excited and so thankful to this organization for getting it done, making me feel appreciated and compensated the right way, and on top of that I got to move the needle for the tight end room.”
Kelce earned a raise with his performance in the postseason. The future Hall of Famer had 32 receptions for 355 yards and three touchdowns.
Even though Kelce is 34 years old, the Chiefs aren’t worried about him potentially slowing down.
“Every now and then you have one of these guys that are outliers, and certainly Travis is one of those players,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach. “It’s funny, it’s not even May yet, and today we had a chance to get out there in phase 2 and guys were out there running around. Travis was the first guy in line, and he looked like he was 28 years old.”
We’ll find out this fall if Kelce is still the best tight end in the NFL.
