You’ve probably heard plenty about how the Kansas City Chiefs have one of the toughest schedules of any team in the 2022 NFL season.
Whether it’s a strength of schedule based on opponent win percentage last season or based on projected win-loss totals for 2022, the Chiefs are projected to have either the toughest or one of the toughest schedules in the league. One particular stat adds an extra level of emphasis showing just how tough the Kansas City schedule is, though.
According to data gathered by Elias Sports Bureau, the Chiefs will become the first team in NFL history to play eight consecutive games to start the season against teams that had a winning record the previous year.

- Week 9 at Titans: 12-5
If you’re keeping track, that’s 85 wins to 51 losses. To go even further, 11 of the first 12 teams this team will face had a winning record last season. They’re just facing a slate of opponents with an incredible record of success.
It’s not hyperbole if someone now tells you that the Chiefs are playing one of the toughest schedules in NFL history in 2022. They now have the facts to back it up. Obviously, the expanded 17-game schedule is playing a role in making this possible, but it’s still really awe-inspiring.
What will be even more awe-inspiring is if Kansas City manages to get out of those first eight games with a winning record. They’re not going to shy away from a challenge, but on the surface, this is an extremely challenging group of opponents. The margin for error was already exceedingly slim and it looks even slimmer in the opening weeks of the 2022 NFL season.
