Taylor Swift’s new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” officially released this Friday. It didn’t take long for her fans to dissect every single song.
The consensus on social media is that Swift called out Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney in her song “The Alchemy.” Fans are also convinced that song was made for her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
So, why do people think Swift took a jab at Toney? In the song, she says, “Touch down, call the amateurs and cut ’em from the team.”
Even though Toney remains on Kansas City’s roster, he wasn’t involved in the team’s Super Bowl run. In fact, he last played on Dec. 17 against the Patriots.
The Chiefs said Toney was inactive during the playoffs because of an injury. He quickly shot down that idea on Instagram Live.
“I’m not hurt,” Toney said, via Arrowhead Report. “On God, not hurt, none of that. It go from hip to ankle to this to that. … What else? I’m in a body cast right now, at this point.”
Although it hasn’t been confirmed that Swift took a shot at Toney with the “cut ’em from the team” line, fans are going to believe that’s the case.
“Taylor called out Kadarius Toney,” one fan tweeted.
Another fan said, “That would be hilarious if she started throwing subs on behalf of Kelce.”
“Kadarius has 24 hours to respond,” a social media user added.
Maybe, just maybe, Toney will actually respond to these rumors.
As for Swift, she’s going to sit back and enjoy the praise she’s getting for her new album.
