According to a report from TMZ, former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Kadarius Toney was arrested last week in Georgia.
TMZ’s report indicates that Toney is being held on “one charge of aggravated assault — strangulation … and one charge of obstructing/harassing 911 calls.” Toney is accused of strangling a woman during an altercation on Jan. 14, allegedly putting his hand around her throat.
According to police documents we obtained, the former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver was accused of putting his hand around a woman’s throat during a dispute at a Georgia residence on Jan. 14 … and squeezing “with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath.”
Toney, who was a key part of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII win over the Philadelphia Eagles two years ago, was released by Kansas City on August 27, 2024, after the team’s training camp.
Toney was not a member of the Chiefs’ roster during the 2024 regular season or Kansas City’s run through the AFC playoffs in the lead-up to Super Bowl LIX.

The Chiefs originally acquired Toney in a trade with the New York Giants in October 2022. He was a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft, but Toney will face significant headwinds in his return to the league if the charges he currently faces are substantiated, given the violent nature of the offenses.
