Mahomes has now won more weekly awards than any Chiefs quarterback in franchise history.
Mahomes went 27 of 36 for 337 yards and three passing touchdowns for a 131.4 passer rating, adding a 5-yard rushing touchdown in Kansas City’s 33-29 come-from-behind victory against the Cleveland Browns.
This award marks the sixth offensive player of the week award for Mahomes, who won two in 2018, one in 2019, two in 2020 and now one in 2021. The sixth award is especially relevant, as he has now won the most weekly awards by a Chiefs quarterback, according to NFL communications — Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana had five with the club.
In the other AFC awards, Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby won defensive player of the week and Cincinnati Bengals kicker Evan McPherson won special teams player of the week.
