The Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing Super Bowl LIX loss to the Philadelphia Eagles prevented them from capturing a three-peat. Numerous factors contributed to the 40-22 loss in New Orleans, but once again, the game referees have emerged as another focal point in recaps of the game.
The Chiefs were forced to answer questions throughout Super Bowl week about the alleged favoritism of referees on all their media panels. Veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins started the conversation on behalf of the Chiefs during his post-Super Bowl press conference.
“I saw a lot of things in the media about the refs, but obviously, what y’all gonna say now about the refs and us?” said Hopkins, who finished the game with two catches for 18 yards and a touchdown. “When there was a lot of touchy calls. Are y’all gonna report that? Are y’all gonna talk about the refs now?”

The Chiefs were flagged for seven penalties totaling 75 yards, while the Eagles were flagged for eight penalties totaling 59 yards. The game notably began with a questionable offensive pass interference call against Philadelphia during an A.J. Brown reception over Trent McDuffie.
