Mecole Hardman understands how important the 2021 season is for him.
The 23-year-old wide receiver admitted this week that the upcoming season is arguably the biggest of his young career. Hardman, a second round pick out of Georgia in 2019, is entering the second to last year of his rookie contract.
Hardman wants Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to understand that he can be trusted in the wide receivers unit.
“It’s probably one of my most important seasons,” Hardman said, per Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “I think it’s up to me personally to do what I need to do and take advantage of every opportunity that’s given to me and gain the trust of the coaches, the rest of the staff and Pat and my teammates and just show them I can be a viable asset every Sunday or whatever day we’re playing on. It’s kind of that time to just take those challenges head on and try to prove myself.”
Hardman had 41 catches for 560 yards and four touchdowns last season.
Mahomes has said he’s seen a “completely different” player in Hardman so far in training camp.
It will be fun to see what kind of regular season the young wide receiver can put together.
