Chiefs TE Travis Kelce opens up about future after Super Bowl LIX loss: ‘I owe it to my teammates’

February 13, 2025 by Chiefs Wire

One of the top questions following the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX was the plans of Travis Kelce. Rumors emerged during the weekend that the ten-time Pro Bowler is considering retirement this offseason.

Kelce and his brother Jason discussed his decision on the latest episode of the New Heights podcast.

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year, and right now, I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road,” said Kelce, “I am not making any crazy decisions, but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding there’s a lot that goes into this thing. I’ve been fortunate over the past five, six years; I’ve played more football than anybody.”

Kelce has the record for the most postseason catches in NFL history and has received other top individual honors. However, he believes his decision deserves to be discussed, and he wants to do right by his teammates.

“I’m going to take some time to figure it out,” said Kelce. “I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, it’s going to be something that, it’s a wholehearted decision.”

Kelce turns 36 in October and has already carved out a lane in entertainment after football.
