Chiefs’ second-highest-paid player absent in Super Bowl LIX stat sheet

February 11, 2025 by Chiefs Wire

The Kansas City Chiefs didn’t get any help from their second-highest-paid player—star defensive lineman Chris Jones—in Super Bowl LIX.

Jones, who held out from Kansas City’s first game in 2023 as part of a negotiation tactic to secure a high-dollar extension, does not appear in the Super Bowl LIX stat sheet.

He did not register a single tackle, combined tackle, sack, or pass deflection in the Chiefs’ blowout loss to the Eagles.

Heading into the 2025 season, Jones’ contract is set to account for 12.6 percent of Kansas City’s salary cap.

Though the Chiefs’ loss can’t be blamed on any single player, Jones’ total inability to make any impact in Super Bowl LIX should be concerning to Kansas City’s fans, who have grown accustomed to seeing him dominate opposing offensive linemen.

The Chiefs’ coaching staff will need to figure out how to get Jones to make more of an impact in future championship games if Kansas City intends to continue winning Super Bowl titles.
