Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes describes his mindset going into another Super Bowl: ‘I don’t take it for granted’

January 30, 2025 by Chiefs Wire

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes hasn’t experienced life in the NFL without at least reaching the conference championship game. He added another victory to his impressive record last Sunday in the AFC Championship victory over the Buffalo Bills, earning him a fifth trip to the Super Bowl.

“It’s just so hard to get to the Super Bowl, and I don’t take it for granted. To be able to do it again at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium was special. I mean, last year was awesome.” said Mahomes during his AFC Championship postgame press conference. “You get there and win it, but you’re at a different stadium. Then, being able to win it at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, and then you get that trophy on that stage, and you look around, and there’s not a seat empty. It is a special place, and I’m glad that I get to be a part of Chiefs Kingdom and here in Kansas City because these (are) moments that I’ll have for the rest of my life.”

With 17 postseason wins, Mahomes passed Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Montana for the second-most postseason wins by a starting quarterback
in NFL history. He trails only Tom Brady with plenty of time in his career to try and reach the living legend.

“I mean, not necessarily. I just put every single season as its own season. Every team’s different. You get new guys; you get guys that have to step up in different roles, so I just go about my business and try to prepare everybody to be in the best possible situations to succeed. Obviously, it
will be awesome. I think if we somehow look back at the end of my career, if we’re able to go out there and get that three-peat, but at the same time, you just treat it as one season and one Super Bowl run, which is always hard to do.”

Mahomes is a three-time Super Bowl champion, winning MVP each time. He knows he has the opportunity to lead Kansas City into more history. A victory in Super Bowl LIX over the Philadelphia Eagles will make Kansas City the only team to win three consecutive Super Bowl titles.
