If you asked any Chiefs fan back in September where we’d be on December 26, not a single one of us would have predicted this.
The dynasty has hit its first true speed bump. Yesterday’s 20-13 Christmas Day loss to the Denver Broncos wasn’t just painful because it was against a division rival—it was the final nail in the coffin of a season that went off the rails weeks ago. Dropping to 6-10 is unfamiliar territory for Chiefs Kingdom, and watching the Broncos celebrate a season sweep at Arrowhead is a sight none of us want to see again.
The Reality of Life Without 15
Let’s be honest: it’s hard to judge this team right now. Since Patrick Mahomes went down with that ACL injury against the Chargers earlier this month, the offense has looked like a shell of itself. We can appreciate the fight from the backups, but the NFL is a quarterback league. Without the magician under center, the margin for error is non-existent.
The defense did its part on Christmas, keeping the game within one score despite being on the field for what felt like eternity. But scoring 13 points at home isn’t going to cut it, especially when the playoff streak we’ve cherished for nearly a decade has officially snapped.
The Silver Lining?
It hurts to say “wait ‘til next year” before New Year’s Eve, but that’s our reality. The silver lining is that for the first time in the Andy Reid era, we are looking at a legitimately high draft pick. We need reinforcements on the offensive line and arguably another playmaker on the outside. This “lost season” might just be the reload year we didn’t know we needed.
Looking Ahead
We have one game left to play. It might be meaningless for the standings, but it matters for pride. We need to see the young guys fight. We need to see who wants to be part of the 2026 redemption tour.
Patrick will be back. The coaching staff will adjust. This isn’t the end of the road; it’s just a detour. Rest up, Kingdom. We’ll be back on top sooner than the rest of the league thinks.
Go Chiefs.
